For six straight days in October 2016, the Ear Taxi Festival celebrated and showcased Chicago’s booming contemporary music scene rallying over 350 musicians and 88 composers to present 54 world premieres in venues across the city. The festival, brainchild of virtuoso composer Augusta Read Thomas, was the largest of its kind in the city’s history and I was thrilled to have been asked to produce a set of short and quick promos for this massive event.

I traversed one of the largest instruments ever built with festival composer Tomás I. Gueglio Saccone and University of Chicago carilloneur Joey Brink to talk about the work they were doing together inside the belly of this musical beast.
THIRD COAST PERCUSSION
Glenn Prestwich from the Sounds of Science Commissioning Club commissioned Grammy-winning Third Coast Percussion to collaboratively compose a work for the festival and captured the ensemble’s process behind the scenes along the way.

Augusta invited me over to her studio to sit in on a rehearsal for the festival’s opening performance featuring soprano Whitney Morrison in a new song cycle "Angels, Birds, and I" composed by jazz legend Patricia Barber.
